Archive II

This information is archived as reference for others who may aspire to similar  concepts, particularly in the Sky Islands region. We identify with the integrity and vision of the Fogo Island Art Studios, yet feel kindred to the community-driven frugality and simplicity of efforts such as the Rural Studio 20K Initiative. We particularly admire the Tucson works of architect Judith Chafee and architectural sculptor Charles Clement.

We feel that as discourse feeds good work, so does periodic solitude and respite from the sometimes uncivilized torrent of civilization.

If we had been able to establish a community project in the Chiricahua range, it was our aim to offer accommodations and residencies centered on notable work in arts, humane STEM/STEAM, and other fields related to local grassroots stewardship.

For similar projects’ reference, this is the format for accomodations we had planned:

Vacation
Seasonal rates for vacation travelers

Workforce Credit
20% reduction of seasonal rates for Medicaid cardholders (employed at up to 60% of HUD median income for their household size)

Research
40% reduction of seasonal rates for researchers actively working on regional research in humane STEM/STEAM fields. Special consideration including potential sponsorships from researchers hailing from dispossessed communities

Internship
70% reduction of seasonal rates in combination with paid wages, considered by application or offered by invitation, to youth seeking education in arts, humane STEM/STEAM, Indigenous sovereignty, law/administration for conservation, or other relevant fields. Special consideration including potential sponsorships, for youth hailing from dispossessed communities

Residency
Private invitations, free of any cost for accommodations, based on recommended work in arts, humane STEM/STEAM, or other relevant fields. We did not plan a public avenue for residency solicitations, but would have welcomed all visitors to share suggestions for potential candidates
